Our Story.

Our mission is to create exceptional, accessible and inspiring yoga experiences for students and Teachers with high quality training, workshops and retreats.

Manipura Yoga College is founded on principles of excellence in practice. When students have access to experienced Teachers through ClassesWorkshops and Retreats, the opportunity to grow within their practice vastly expands. When Teachers are trained to the highest caliber, they can share an accessible, insightful, safe and unified practice with their students.

The Manipura Yoga College is rooted the the Hatha Yoga (the yoga of balance) and Kundalini Yoga (the yoga of awareness) traditions. Our 200 Hour Foundation Yoga Teacher Training program creates capable, comprehensive and compassionate Yoga Teachers.

Our Advanced 300 Hour Program for Certified Yoga Teachers offers Advanced Kundalini Yoga and Meditation modules, SAFER Yoga Teaching Techniques, Functional Anatomy, and more.

A Registered Yoga School (RYS) with the Yoga Alliance, our 200-hour and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings are internationally certified. Upon successful completion students can register for RYT-200 or RYT-500 designation with the Yoga Alliance.

The Manipura Chakra is the “City of Jewels” in which we find the pearls of clarity, wisdom, self-confidence and wellbeing. The Manipura program is excellent for those looking to teach yoga as a Registered Yoga Teacher, and/or for profound personal development.

Your journey awaits, the time is now.

Jay Suttonbrown, Founder and Director of Training

For over a decade, Jay Suttonbrown has been a Yoga Teacher, Studio Owner and Yoga Teacher Trainer in beautiful British Columbia. From Vancouver to Victoria, Haida Gwaii to Nanaimo, Jay's mission is to empower individuals to connect with their inner wisdom, their joy, and the wonder that comes from being alive.

A human life is made up of choices. Yoga is mindfully connecting to those choices. Connecting to our truth, power, and worthiness. Connecting to our bodies, breath and life force. Connecting to how our habit energy works, and what it feels like when we rise above our habits into our true vibrant state. Yoga is a set of powerful technologies that support our journey to mindful connection, each day, each moment, each breath. Even “when we don’t feel like it.” We have choices. Sat Nam.

Stephanie is amazed at the continual opportunities yoga provides for physical, emotional, and spiritual growth. She is extremely grateful for all of her teachers and students, past and present, and has faith that with yoga, and a whole lot of raucous laughter, the world will become a peaceful, happier place.

Joani Mortenson, Teacher Trainer,

Social Working Yogi

Greetings! My experience as a clinical social worker and bodywork practitioner have deeply informed my yoga practice, stirring me to craft SAFER yoga instruction—a teaching style and ideology that is trauma sensitive, inclusive, body-positive, decolonizing and embraces the polestar of social justice.

I believe, just like good literature, yoga, meditation and movement are equipment for living, enriching and guiding us home. And like compelling stories, yoga can inspire, heal and challenge us to dig deep into the mythic marrow of who we believe ourselves and our purpose to be. Raja or classical yoga offers us exquisite tools to balance, resolve and reconcile our selves, to live ethically and to weave our place in community. Yoga is an inside job with an amazing benefit package. In-Joy. Jai Bhagwan
